No Funding for Clean Air in St Louis Area

The House failed to approve funding for a program to consolidate auto emissions inspections in the St Louis area.

Missy Shelton has the story from Jefferson City.

A proposal of about 1.5 million dollars to fund a program to crack-down on car emissions didn't make it past the House.

Opposition came from those who said the program would not have solved air pollution problems.

But bill sponsor Representative Phil Tate argued it's a health issue that needs to be addressed.

The bill now goes back to the House-Senate Budget Committee.

The House rejected funding that would have set up a program to control vehicle emissions.

Opposition came from those who said they felt the measure would not be effective.
