Some Missouri children would be no longer be eligible for early childhood special education programs under a new cost-cutting plan. Christine McCarty has the story.
Due to potential budget cuts, Missouri's department of education might have to cut the number of children allowed in early childhood special education programs. These budget cuts would create strict eligibility requirements and children with moderate developmental delays or mild speech disorders would not be allowed in early childhood special education programs.
Melodie Friedeback, assistant commissioner of Missouri's special education division, says that programs for children with severe disabilities would not be cut.
But Friedbach says that these programs won't be cut if their budget doesn't get cut by the state this spring. From the state Capitol, I'm Christine McCarty.
