Sen. Kit Bond speaks to House and Senate about Parents As Teachers

Senator Kit Bond spoke to the House and Senate Tuesday about his proposal for federal funding to expand the St.Louis-based Parents as Teachers program. Lindsay Shively has the story.

Senator Kit Bond helped to launch Parents As Teachers nearly twenty years ago. The program focuses on getting parents involved with their children during the years before kindergarten to catch any problems that could prohibit the child's academic growth. Bond is asking for federal funds to increase the impact of the program. Bond says the program is helpful because early detection is key.

Contents: Thanks to early detection and prevention, problems are being fixed when they can be fixed.

The program which started in St. Louis has now spread to all fifty states and other countries.
